Lenny Young

Lenny Young, in addition to being a sought-after collaborative artist and teacher, is Principal Oboe of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Mendelssohn Choir. He leads his own improvising trio Full Stop and was a founding member of the improvising chamber groups Ensemble Duchamp, Levendis Duo and Comprov Group.

Mr. Young values collaboration with other artists of different disciplines. He has worked with local composers and arrangers in productions for Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theater, Point Park Conservatory and Pennsylvania Dance Theater. As a soloist, he composed and performed music for Point Park Repertory Company's productions of Knights Of The Round Table and The Third Lie. He has worked extensively with Pittsburgh sound poet Eden McNutt in his ensemble Dust & Feathers, as well as with choreographers, visual artists and multimedia artists.

He holds BFA and MM degrees in music performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied oboe with Cynthia Koledo DeAlmeida, improvisation with Eric Kloss and composition with Reza Vali. In the past four years, Mr. Young has embarked on a parallel career as a singer, singing in the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus, Chorus of the Opera Theatre Of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh's premiere chamber choir, The Pittsburgh Camerata. He also teaches music at St. John Of God School in McKees Rocks, PA and conducts the choir at Third Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh.
